Competency 8: Social Justice

ALA Core Competencies of Librarianship
Consider what assignments you completed that met ALA Core Competency Number 8: Social Justice.
*On this page, you should embed, as documents, two assignments
from your coursework that demonstrate the competency. These
assignments can be from any course you have taken in your Master's degree coursework. As you identify assignments that demonstrate application of each core competency, we suggest that you consult
student learning outcomes and/or course objectives in the syllabi of
the courses you have taken as a source of information on competencies developed by
the course and its assignments.
After
you identify two assignments that meet this competency, please include the
following information about the assignments identified:
- Course in which you completed the assignment (e.g., INFO 5200, Information Organization Project)
- Name and brief, one sentence description of the assignment
- Date of completion of the assignment
- Copy of the paper/document/etc. you submitted for the assignment--we recommend that you embed documents AND provide links
- A quote with the specific piece of the competency that the assignment covered.
- A short reflective essay (150-200 words) in which you describe specifically why you think that this assignment meets the competency.
- You may use one assignment to meet 2 different competencies but not more than 2.
