Professional Philosophy
As a student of health informatics initially I believed that information access is solely related to healthcare, and it is specific to people who are associated to health informatics. Having worked as an executive and trainer in US healthcare industry for more than 5 years information access was mostly related to storage and access of patients health records, analyzing the list of insurances and their eligibilities so that we can bill if the insurance is active, accessing and sharing of information to the authorized personal for proper payment on the bill which was mostly related to health care.
While pursuing the course I have realized that the information access is not only constricted to healthcare or health informatics rather it is about accessing of information, acquiring the knowledge and providing it to the seeker. Information is the basic need of every individual. (Tubachi, 2018).
As an information professional we must understand the perspective and need of the people who are trying to seek information in order to provide the appropriate, ethical and sourced information. Also, I have learnt how to search, access, retrieve, evaluate and deliver information. Libraries collect and store vast information and in order to provide the required information to the people we need to understand the information needs of individuals and analyze their information seeking behavior. This course assists me in learning about various information professions that I can pursue to broaden my knowledge in searching and evaluating the information and help people to obtain the required information based on their information needs. In addition, this course helps me with opportunities in health informatics to safeguard the patients information by following Health insurance portability and accountability act in addition this course also helps with library professions.
